Yoga Sutra 1.1 starts with Atha Yoga Anushasanam—“Now, the practice of yoga begins.”

At first it sounds obvious, like okay cool, time for yoga.

But it’s really a nudge: wake up to this exact moment. Don’t get lost in plans or worries, because this second will never repeat. And “enjoying it” isn’t about loving every bit—it’s seeing that even the messy parts might be the doorway to growth.

Motherhood makes the lesson impossible to ignore.

My daughter’s sudden laughter, her stormy tears, her detours & distractions from any plan—each one says, wake up and be here with me. My husband’s gentle “are you listening?” pulls me back from worrying and planning to the life we’re building right now.

Sometimes the moment is hard or loud or not picture perfect.

But Yoga Sutra 1.1 whispers:

  • stay anyway

  • Release control

  • indulge in the chaos

  • Take a conscious breath and watch it shift

She won’t be this little forever, and I get to be here for it all—the sweetness, the mess, the becoming. This is all that I prayed for and then some. Thank you Universe
